Post 1

My name is Alexa and I am a first semester senior at Hunter.  I aim to consume as much media as I can in my daily life as I better prepare myself to grow and develop my knowledge and skills in the world of Public Relations. I hope to absorb as much media as possible to learn about the ways in which it is constantly changing.

When I was younger my mom worked as a freelance reporter for our local newspaper.  Working her way up she eventually became the editor.  Being surrounded by media through my mom's career has sparked my own interest in the field.  Since discovering that I wanted to go into the media industry
I have had internships at several different companies to learn more about the working world.  I found I really enjoyed the work that I was doing at my latest internship at CBS.  I was working in the publicity department and I found every single day fulfilling.

Because I truly enjoy media, I find myself obsessing over it in my free time as well.  My friends often make fun of me for caring so much about entertainment publicity-related things.  I just think it is interesting to see how fast information can travel, and how differently careers are managed with the use of new technology.  I actively use Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr to learn how to use these as tools in my career.

With the use of media I also get to learn more about issues in the world.  Whether it be through news outlets or even social media, we get to hear so many different point of views. I feel like I get to fully learn about these issues because I get to hear every side.  This is mostly because media has given everyone the power to feel that their opinion deserves to be heard.  As a white woman I am represented in the media enough, not as often as white men, but enough.  Because I get to see so many opinions on the internet, I get to learn how other minorities feel when they are excluded.  For example, seeing everyone's thoughts on the 2016 Oscars has really opened my mind to the issues that are prevalent in our society.
